Wunderbarer Zuwachs bei Brambus im Songwriter/Rock/Soul-Bereich: „Loom“ ist die Band, in die sich die Sängerin, Gitarristin und Songschreiberin Manu Olowu einkuschelt. Ihre Songs entstehen, wenn mal wieder alles schief läuft, das Leben in seinen Grundfesten erschüttert ist, oder aber das Herz höher schlägt als sonst. Meist geht’s um die Liebe. Wie sie sein sollte, sein könnte, nicht sein darf oder will, wie sie verschmäht wird, stirbt oder unsterblich immer wieder Wellen wirft. Es geht aber auch um Unliebsames wie Lästermäuler, Ignoranten, Lügner und Selbstmörder. Auf jeden Fall geht es immer um Gefühle. Gefühle, ohne die das Leben langweilig wäre und ohne die es keine Musik auf der Welt gäbe…
Gefühl ist auch das, was die Musiker einbringen, um die Songs zu bemalen, zu beflügeln oder ihnen gar Zähne zu verleihen. Gefühle sind auch der Grund, weshalb sich die vier Musiker schon jahrelang treu zur Seite stehen. Natürlich nicht ohne die Beziehung spannend erhaltende Nebengeschichten, Seitensprünge und sonstige Eskapaden.
Schliesslich wäre es eine Schande, Musiker wie Mario Söldi am Schlagzeug, Michael Hutter am Bass und Jo Eberhard an Gitarre und Mandoline der restlichen Musikwelt vorzuenthalten. Auch Manu Olowu hat nebenbei natürlich ihre Geschichten am Köcheln. Aber selbst dort sind die „Jungs“ meist mit von der Partie. Ja, wie es so schön heisst: don’t change a winning team! Bitte wache Ohren – dies ist ein tolles Debutalbum!
A wonderful addition to the Brambus catalogue, in the Songwriter/Rock/Soul area, 'Loom' is the band in which singer, guitarist and songwriter Manu Olowu finds herself at home. Her songs arise out of those times when everything goes wrong, when life is shaken to the core, or when the heart beats faster than usual. Mostly they're concerned with love. What it is, what it isn't, how it ought to be, could be, should be, or aspires to be, how it can be rejected and dying or, immortal, generate wave after wave. The material is also concerned with the disagreeable; the scandal-mongers, the ignorant, the liars and the suicides. But in every case it's the feelings which count. Feelings; without which life would be dull, and without which there would be no music in the world.
Feeling is also what drives the musicians to accompany these songs, to give them wings or make them bite. Feelings, too, are the reason these four musicians have stayed true to each other, year in, year out; naturally enough, not without passing musical affairs and supportive sub-plots, leaps in the dark and strange escapades. Certainly, it would be a shame if musicians such as Mario Söldi on drums, Michael Hutter on bass, and Jo Eberhard on guitar and mandolin were not out there in the restless world of music; and of course Manu Olowu, too, has her own stories on the boil. But most of the time they're together.
