Kennst du mich? - Eine Frage und eine Aufforderung zugleich. Wer die charismatische Sängerin noch nicht kennt, für den ist Sonja Indin eine spannende Entdeckung – und ein wohltuender Neuzugang in der Brambus-Jazz-Familie!
Die erste CD der Zürcher Musikerin präsentiert filigrane und doch kraftvolle Songs. Sonja Indins Lieder scheinen sich ums Licht zu ranken, so als suchte sie die Helligkeit, gerade weil sie die Schatten kennt.
„Dear Moon / wandering in your light and see / what a beauty life can be / what a treasure lies in you / how much beauty we could share”. „Dear Moon“, ein Song voller Sehnsucht und Imagination, nimmt den Hörer mit auf einen Mondspaziergang. In ihren Liedern singt sie darüber, wie schön das Leben sein kann und wie viel Schönheit wir teilen können, aber auch von Narben, die jeder manchmal abkriegt, der etwas wagt im Leben. Wenn Sonja Indin über Liebe singt (sei es die brennende, die erkühlte, oder die platonische Liebe), beschwört sie die Kraft der Träume und macht sich auf die Suche nach Drachenherzen.
Der Titelsong „Do you know me?“ umkreist das Thema der Selbst- und Fremdwahrnehmung und fragt: „Kann man einen Menschen wirklich kennen?“ Sonja Indins musikalische Antwort darauf gleicht einer akustischen Vertonung der Mondphasen. Der Mond hat viele Gesichter, und eben diese Wandelbarkeit macht die Künstlerin in ihrer Musik zum Konzept. Nimmt der Mond zu, klingt die Musik lebensfroh und überschäumend; nimmt er ab, sind die Klänge ins Melancholische getaucht. Nach dunkler Nacht klingt ihre Musik trotzdem nicht, genau so wenig wie nach gleissendem Tageslicht.
Sonja Indin ist eine Jazzsängerin und Singer-Songwriterin. Sie ist stilistisch keine Puristin und doch ist ihre Musik unverkennbar. Das mag an Sonja Indins Stimme liegen, die sinnlich und leichtfüssig über Stilgrenzen tänzelt. Oder an den poetischen, leicht versponnenen Texten. Unterstützt wird sie von einer eingespielten und hochkarätigen Band. Vier Gastmusiker erscheinen auf dem Album und machen die CD dank ihrem einfühlsamen Spiel zum Klangerlebnis. Mit Sonja Indin gilt es eine vielseitige Musikerin und eine bemerkenswerte Songschreiberin kennen zu lernen. Auf ihre erste CD darf man sich freuen. “Do you know me?” - That is a question and an invitation at the same time. Anyone who hasn’t heard of Sonja Indin yet should keep their ears open - she’s an artist well worth knowing and the newest addition to the brambus jazz family!
The Zurich based singer’s first record presents delicate and yet strong song writing. Sonja Indin’s music seems to entwine around light, as if she was searching for luminance because she’s familiar with shadows too.
“Dear Moon / wandering in your light and see / what a beauty life can be / what a treasure lies in you / how much beauty we could share”. “Dear Moon”, a song full of longing and imagination, takes the listener out for a walk under the moonlight. Sonja Indin sings about the beauty of life as well as about the scars everyone gets who dares to take risks. When she sings about love (whether it’s the burning, the fading or the platonic kind of love),she conjures the magic of dreaming and goes hunting for dragon hearts. Her way of telling stories through her songs is just unique.
“Do you know me?” asks whether it is possible to genuinely know a person at all. Sonja Indins answer sets the phases of the moon to music. Just as the moon has many faces, it seems that constant transformation is part of Sonja Indins musical concept. The waxing moon renders her music lively and vital. The waning moon represents a more melancholic and withdrawn side. Yet her music neither sounds like dark nights nor like glistening daylight.
Sonja Indin is a jazz singer and a singer- songwriter. Her style is not strictly within only one genre, yet her music is quite distinctive. It must be due to her voice, she sings smoothly and twinkle-toed without even bothering stylistic boundaries. A highly skilled band supports her with excellent playing, and four special guests appear on the album. The fruit is inspiring and really quite something!
