Following "Ballads In Plain Talk" his 1990 acoustic debut for Brambus, Jeff Wilkinson teams up with a three piece band, "The Navigators" on "Brave And True". The result - a fuller sound; while Wilkinson's songwriting remains the focal point of the new work. A songwriter and performer who shuld rise to international prominence before long.

Zugegeben, ein Schnellschütze ist JEFF WILKINSON nicht. Er lässt sich für seine Songs und Produktionen extrem viel Zeit – aber dafür trifft er damit dann auch wieder voll den Geschmack der Geniesser guter Songwriterkunst. Seit seinem letzten Vorgängerwerk bei Brambus sind fast acht Jahre vergangen und jetzt hat der in der Nähe von New York lebende Songschmied sein Werk „Landscapes“ abgeliefert. Seine bereits vierte Produktion für Brambus – alle Vorgängerwerke sind ebenfalls noch lieferbar! – überzeugt mit viel Zeitgefühl und der im Trend liegenden verstärkten Rückführung auf akustische Instrumente. Wie bereits im Rahmen seiner Tournee im Herbst 2004 sind Sara Milonovich (voc., fiddle, mand., flute, bouzouki) und Greg Anderson (voc., bass, banjo, perc.) bei den Einspielungen als tragende Begleiter mit dabei, dazu der in den USA auch bei Konzerten eingesetzte Drumer Dan Fisherman und drei Studiomusiker, die für etwas verstärkte Arrangements gegenüber dem Live-Set sorgen. Das Album ist sehr vorsichtig und feinfühlig produziert und bietet vierzehn neue Songs mit Tiefgang, die aber trotzdem schnell den Weg zur Vertrautheit finden. Wilkinsons charismatische Stimme ist unverkennbar und das Gefühl für passende Arrangements kommt auf dem neuen Album einmal mehr deutlich zum Ausdruck – ein weiterer Meilenstein von besonderer Qualität! Jeff Wilkinson wird erst im Frühjahr 2006 wieder in Europa auf Tournee sein, aber er wird – wie bereits 2004 – sicher wieder gute Beachtung finden!
We agree, Jeff Wilkinson is not a fast shooter of new productions, but he aims his targets with more care and hits deeper when ready. It took him eight years since his last album on brambus to get the 14 new songs written and recorded. But every minute waiting was worthwhile. Compared to the earlier releases, Jeff Wilkinson moved more towards an acoustic set up, pretty similar to his live appearances in Europe in late autumn 2004, where also Sara Milonovich (voc., fiddle, mand., flute, bouzouki) and Greg Anderson (voc., bass, banjo, perc.) were the main side musicians - for the recording adding the drumer Dan Fisherman and three studio cracks, which are giving the songs a bit a wider arrangement as the live appearance allowed. The album is very carefully crafted, recorded and produced and offers 14 new and deep going songs, which nevertheless find an easy access to listener’s ears and remain there for long. Wilkinson’s charismatic voice is easy to recognize and his excellent feeling for matching arrangements are the key to the new album. – Another milestone of excellent songwriter quality. And Jeff Wilkinson is preparing his coming back to Europe for spring 2006, which will give additional attention to the new masterpiece.
